A Practical AI Playbook for Veterinary Ophthalmology Technicians
Artificial intelligence has arrived in veterinary medicine, but many technicians have concluded it has little to offer them yet — either because their practice hasn’t adopted it or because the conversation seems aimed at doctors and managers. This lecture takes a different approach. Beginning with the documentation, communication, training, and preparation burden surrounding ophthalmic patient care, it surveys the AI tools available to veterinary practices today — including ambient transcription, medical record drafting, record summarization, and client communication tools — with firsthand lessons from implementing them in a specialty ophthalmology environment: what worked, what didn’t, and where human review remained essential. Equal attention is given to applications any technician can begin using immediately, without patient data, recording, or new hospital systems. Attendees will leave with a framework for judging where AI belongs and where it does not, a structured approach to verifying AIgenerated content, credible responses to common concerns, and a bounded pilot template to bring to their doctors and practice managers.
