The Dreaded Fung-Eye: Small Animal Patients with Systemic Fungal Infection
This presentation will cover the basics of common systemic fungal infections encountered in small animal patients such as blastomycosis and histoplasmosis. Topics covered will include case distribution, systemic effects, diagnostic testing, the ophthalmic impact of these conditions, as well as updated case management recommendations and prognostic indicators.
Dr. Kathryn Smith graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2010. She became board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in 2017 following completion of a concurrent Ophthalmology Residency and PhD program at Oklahoma State University. After residency, Dr. Smith worked as faculty at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. In 2021, she joined the team at Wisconsin Veterinary Referral Center, a specialty and emergency hospital serving the greater Milwaukee area.
