Dr. Caryn Plummer received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Yale University in 1997 and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree, with honors, from the University of Florida in 2002. She completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Michigan State University, followed by a residency in comparative ophthalmology at the University of Florida. She became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO) in 2006.
Following completion of her specialty training, Dr. Plummer joined the faculty at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in 2006, where she is currently a tenured professor.
She is a charter member of and currently serves as Secretary/Treasurer of the International Equine Ophthalmology Consortium (IEOC). She is also Past Chair of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO) Exam Committee and currently chairs the Vision for Animals Foundation Glaucoma Consortium.
Dr. Plummer has authored numerous scientific articles and textbook chapters in veterinary ophthalmology and is a contributing author and associate editor of Veterinary Ophthalmology. Her research interests include corneal wound healing, glaucoma, and immune-mediated ocular disease. She has lectured extensively in the United States and worldwide on topics relevant to veterinary ophthalmology and ophthalmic diseases.
