BIANCA C. MARTINS

Dr. Bianca Martins received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from São Paulo State University (Brazil) in 2002. She completed both her master’s degree (2005) and PhD (2008) in Veterinary Ophthalmology at the same institution. She subsequently pursued a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Florida, completed in 2012, followed by a residency in Comparative Ophthalmology at the University of Florida in 2015.

Dr. Martins served as an Assistant Professor of Veterinary Ophthalmology at the University of Illinois from 2015 to 2020. She is currently an Associate Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at the University of California, Davis, where she also serves as Director of the Residency Program in Comparative Ophthalmology.

She became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO) in 2016 and is an honorary member of the Latin American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (CLOVE). She currently serves as President of the International Equine Ophthalmology Consortium (IEOC) and is co-chair of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO) Residency Committee, as well as a board member of the International Society of Veterinary Ophthalmology (ISVO), where she is also editor of its newsletter, The Globe.

Dr. Martins has authored numerous scientific articles and textbook chapters in veterinary ophthalmology. Her research interests focus on equine ophthalmology and ocular surface reconstruction, with an emphasis on the use of biological and synthetic grafts.
