Sea World penguin cataract surgery

Welcome to the ACVO 2010 Annual Conference in San Diego. This year we invite you to take full advantage of the program and all of our fun networking opportunities.

To investigate the courses that are offered this year please use the top navigation bar and look under 'course details'. All pre-congresses and labs are outlined here. You may also want to view the tentative schedule. More details will be added as they are developed.

If you are interested in submitting a paper for presentation this year, the process will now be changed to an online submission system. Papers will begin to be received online via the 'call for papers' link above, the beginning of June. Guidelines are available now for planning purposes.

Registration will be open for online or manual registration beginning May 3, 2010. Priority registration is being given to ACVO/ECVO Diplomates for the ERG course. General registration for that course should begin early June. You may register online for the conference between now and September 3, 2010.

Our 'Clinical Ophthalmology for General Practitioners' course this year offers some excellent topics provided by boarded Diplomates of the College. If you are a general practice DVM with an interest in ophthalmology or a student/intern in ophthalmology, this course may be of interest to you.

And of course I have to mention our new format for the Welcome Reception at Sea World this year! Thanks to help from our ACVO President-Elect, Dr. Carmen Colitz, we have been able to book a private Shamu evening show for all attendees and families. Her working relationship with the veterinarians at SeaWorld has helped afford us this unique opportunity. The Shamu Welcome Reception will be available at a very minimal charge and include food, hosted drinks, and a private Shamu show with emphasis on animal husbandry and topics that will interest our veterinarians. Be sure to register for this fun event and you will also receive a discount on Sea World registration later in the week. We are also working on a limited, behind the scenes tour, we'll let you know if that becomes available.

Special thanks to our Planning Committee members for all that they do help us make this event a success! Drs. Robert English, Brian Gilger and Nick Millichamp, thanks for your dedication.

The host hotel, the Paradise Point Resort offers beach and pool for play, many amenities in private bungalows, and many more boasting points. The facility is located about 15 minutes from downtown San Diego. A car is not necessary but may be desired to tour the area.

Sunny California welcomes you! October is a beautiful time of year in San Diego. The planning committee and I hope you are able to attend.

Best wishes,

Stacee Daniel, ACVO Executive Director
