FRIDAY GALA - BEACH PARTY

It will be difficult to compete with the 2010 meeting's SeaWorld event, but we think you will enjoy this gathering. ACVO's Friday Gala will allow participants to enjoy the beautiful white beach flanking the hotel. We anticipate an outdoor event providing a fun chance to mingle on expansive, softly lit decking while enjoying pleasant background music by Classical Guitarist, Sean Driscoll. Those who revel in the lighter side of things may participate in the many beach games and activities that will be provided by the hotel (picture Bocci Ball, Limbo, horseshoes, among others...). Later that evening attendees could enjoy viewing the stars via telescopes overlooking the Atlantic ocean.
New Diplomates are invited to join the ACVO Board of Regents and Chairs of the Residency, Credentials and Exam Committees for a breakfast in their honor on Saturday, October 29th, 7am-8am, location TBD.

2011 INAUGURAL ACVO JURIED PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION
Ophthalmology and photography go hand in hand! Many of our colleagues wear the dual hats of veterinary ophthalmologist and photographer…now is the time to show off your skills! At this year’s annual ACVO meeting we will have a juried photo competition. Any conference attendee is eligible to enter in one or more categories: Anterior segment, Fundus/Posterior Segment, Non-ophthalmic (anything but an eye) and Photo-artistic/Photo-edited. Contestants will bring 8x10” prints in white mats to the meeting. All photos will be displayed for public viewing. The competition will be judged by a 4 member panel. Prizes will be awarded in to the winner of each category with an overall Best in Show awarded for the most outstanding photograph and selected by the judging panel. Detailed contest rules will be announced in the months prior to the meeting. Happy Shooting… we can’t wait to see your best work!

VISION FOR ANIMALS FOUNDATION SILENT AUCTION
Past ACVO Vision for Animals Foundation auctions have been successful due to the generosity of sponsors and buyers. Help us prepare for another successful auction at the 2011 conference by making a donation. The Foundation’s goal is to raise enough money to develop a self-funding grant program. It has already funded more than $200,000 in research grants in the past eight years! Your or your company may wish to participate by donating an item for the auction. This donation is tax-deductible and will attract attention to your company and products. Cash and/or personal donations are also welcome.
Thank you again for your past and future participation. A donor list for 2010 was included on the ACVO web site. Make sure your company is on this list for 2011! To donate, please use this form or contact the ACVO office.

SATURDAY FUN RUN & WALK

Join your colleagues for a beautiful run or walk around the resort. The run starts at 6:30am. Refreshments will be provided at the end of the run. Tickets are $10.00. The ACVO will donate any residual fees after expenses to a local charity to be selected at a later date.
DISTICHIA SOCIETY GOLF OUTING

The Annual Meeting of the Distichia Society will be held
concurrently
with ACVO meeting in Hilton Head this year. We will convene at one of the
excellent local golf courses to share information about how we are dealing
with
horrible diseases afflicting so many of our patients while playing golf and
having a beverage from the courtesy cart. I'm investigating a Tuesday afternoon event (fees are less after 12:00).
Depending
on how many people want to come and the level of play, we could have an
event
for "serious" golfers to play the Harbour Town Links on Tuesday and/or a more
casual
event at a less challenging course on Wednesday morning. This is a call to see how many
people
are interested in playing golf on either or both days. I am getting rates,
etc.,
