Course #1: 5 Practical “Must Know” Ways to Use Social Media in a Specialty Practice

Time: Wed, October 26th, pre-congress, 2:00 - 4:00pm

Cost: $65.00

Description: If you have been on the fence about the need to engage in social media for your specialty practice, it is time to get off. Your clients are there and you need to be, too!

One of the reasons veterinary visits are down is the way that pet owners are using the Internet to direct their veterinary care choices. Specialists can take advantage of this tendency to tell their stories online to educate the public and to work better with referring veterinarians as well. This talk will cover 5 practical ways to use the web more effectively to increase awareness of veterinary specialty services and build your practice.

Course #2: "Practice Management for your ACVO/Merial Service Dog Event - Increase your Return on Investment (ROI)!"

Time: Wed, October 26th pre-congress, 4:00-5:00pm

Cost: No charge (just RSVP to office11@acvo.org )

Attendees: ACVO Diplomates (both currently participating in and/or considering the program), clinic managers, office staff, PR staff,
veterinary technicians and anyone else involved in the program.

Description/Format: Learn how you can make the Service Dog program a PR success for your clinic and increase your ROI. The course will be designed to help veterinarians and staff understand the increasingly positive benefits that come with participation in this growing program; specifically the results of taking the promotion of your program to a local level. In 2010 the national program reached of over 87 million people and to date the 2011 preliminary results already show a reach of over 115 million. Individual clinics are investing a little time and resources to promote their event locally and it is paying off. Hear from others who have successfully harnessed the energy from this event to promote locally.

The course will be split into three sections. First, Fetching Communications, our PR firm for the event, will review the program, why it is so successful and their recommendations of what can be done on a local level to achieve similar recognition. This will cover both things that could be done internally and use of external resources. Our own creator of the program, Dr. Bill Miller, will address attendees regarding the detailed records and results of his internal promotion of this event over the past four years. He has accumulated very interesting information regarding his clinics' ROI. Finally, we will open the floor for some discussion about what worked and what didn't on a local scale…sharing ideas for the last 15 minutes of the program.
