GENETICS UPDATE SYMPOSIUM

Sponsored by:

CERF Optigen

The ACVO and its Genetics Committee are formally announcing the Short Symposium on the Genetics of Inherited Eye Diseases to be held on Wednesday, October 6, 3-5:30pm at theACVO Conference in San Diego. Registration for this meeting is open to everyone.

The meeting will consist of informal, lesion-photograph based, round table discussion of issues that arise during CERF examinations.  Four to six photographs will be presented.  Discussion of each lesion will focus on identification, nomenclature, marking of the CERF form and possible heritable nature of the trait/interpretation.  The purpose of the session will be to improve the uniformity (hopefully via consensus) of identification and reporting of lesions observed in the CERF exam setting.  We envision 10 tables of 10 attendees each with a set of photographs and a moderator at each table.  At the end of the session a brief full group discussion would be held.

This will be a 2 hour session on Wednesday afternoon, from 3-5pm in which 6 lesions will be presented with approximately 15min. discussion time per lesion, then 30 – 45 minutes follow up discussion amongst the entire group/all tables. There will be 10 discussion moderators, one for each table of attendees, consisting of the 9 Genetics Committee members plus the CERF liaison. The fee for the course will be minimal at $45 to cover general costs.
