FOCUS GROUP: STANDARDIZATION OF PHARMACEUTICAL TEST PROTOCOLS

There are many of us who act as consultants to the pharmaceutical industry and, in this capacity, one becomes aware of the wide variety of testing protocols. There is interest in forming a "focus group" to discuss standardization of pharmaceutical testing protocols. The objective would be to produce a "position statement" endorsed by the ACVO to be presented as recommendations to the pharmaceutical industry. Issues which could be addressed include 1) who should perform ophthalmic examinations of test animals?, 2) what constitutes a diagnostic exam?, 3) are mydriatics required?, etc.

If you act as a consultant in performing ophthalmic exams on laboratory species for the pharmaceutical industry and/or contract labs with a frequency of at least 15-20 times per year, and are willing to participate in such a group, please join us for an informal meeting on Friday, Oct 8 at 12:30 in the Sun Room (room assignment is tentative) at the ACVO meeting in San Diego. Email me (off list) to let me know if you plan to attend; there will be a sign-up sheet at the registration table with information confirming the room location. Lunch will NOT be provided; you will have a few minutes to grab something and bring it to the meeting room with you. If you are interested in participating but unable to attend this meeting, please contact me so that we can continue to include you in correspondence.
